“It’s a very poetic project, I wanted to give five minutes of inspiration to people on their way to work or the university in the morning, people who use the metro,” said Anglo-Egyptian architect and designer Karim Rashid of his new "Università" metro station in Naples.
A journey through the senses in which the dominant color is cherry red, chosen by Rashid after conducting aesthetic research “in 120 countries around the world.” With light installations, sculptures, lenticular icons, curved mirrors and allusions to the web with LED lighting, entering the station feels like stepping into the future – a trip that begins with the entry stairwell from the piazza outside, each step tiled with words created over the last 50 years.?The station’s restyling is part of a broader project transforming the southern Italian city’s line 1 into Art Stations. Artists like Kounellis, Merz, Kosuth and De Maria have all participated in the initiative, with Kentridge and Clemente on the horizon.
